To get the most out of your Fire TV Stick, you must sign in to your Amazon account & register during setup. This will allow Amazon to track your preferences and personalize your Fire TV experience.
Your Apps, purchase history, and recommendations will all be linked to your Amazon account, ensuring a seamless viewing experience.
However you may wish to unregister your Fire TV Stick if you are selling, giving away your Fire TV Stick, or if you have encountered issues with the device. Unregistering and deactivating your Fire TV Stick from your Amazon account is a breeze, so you have nothing to worry about.
For complete removal of personal data, I recommend a factory reset of your Fire TV Stick.
Unregister your Fire TV Stick
If you want to unregister your device using your Fire TV Stick remote, just follow these steps:
From the home screen, go to Settings and select Account & Profile Settings.
Select Amazon account.
And finally, select Deregister.
Your Fire TV Stick will now be unregistered from your Amazon account and all personal information associated with it will be removed.
Deregister your Fire TV Stick on your PC
If you don’t have your Fire TV Stick to hand, you can still use your computer to access your Amazon account & deregister.
All you have to do is log into your Amazon account on amazon.com, and navigate to Account & Lists.
From there, select Account and go to Digital Services and Device Support.
Click on Manage devices.
Select the Fire TV device you want to deregister.
Lastly, click on Deregister and you’re good to go.
Factory Reset
This step is optional but to complete this process, perform a factory reset of your Fire TV Stick which will completely clear all of your data and settings from the device.
To factory reset using the Fire TV Stick remote, just hold both the Right button and Back button on your remote for 15 seconds. Look for the “Reset to Factory Defaults” message.
Press the Left and then Select button to confirm OK. Or, if you’d rather, just wait for the timer to do it automatically.
